Telangana police have launched IntraGPT, an offline AI platform to swiftly search years of case records using simple language

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has developed IntraGPT, an offline artificial intelligence platform that enables police officers to search years of records and retrieve case-related information within seconds using simple-language queries.Built under TGCSB’s Sovereign AI framework, the system functions entirely within the protected police network, ensuring that investigation details and citizen data never leave departmental servers. The tool is designed to reduce hours of manual file searches, help newly posted officers quickly understand case histories and support investigations without replacing human judgment.Unlike public AI platforms, IntraGPT operates without internet connectivity. Officers can ask questions in natural language rather than relying on complex database commands or manually sifting through physical and digital records.

.

The system scans historical police data and instantly retrieves relevant information, helping investigators trace references to individuals, reconstruct case backgrounds and uncover links that may otherwise take hours to find.TGCSB director general Shikha Goel said the bureau’s approach clearly separates technology from decision-making. “AI assists while officers decide. The technology is meant to reduce manual effort and save time, but the final assessment and decision will always remain with police officers,” she said. The platform is also expected to benefit officers newly assigned to a unit. Instead of depending solely on lengthy briefings or studying old files manually, they can query records to quickly understand the history of a case, person or subject.Emphasising data security, Goel said, “To protect details and citizen data, not a single byte of sensitive information should leave the protected police network.”By keeping the model, queries and records within police-controlled systems, IntraGPT addresses one of the biggest concerns surrounding AI in enforcement – the risk of information being transmitted outside secure networks.A core component of TGCSB’s broader Sovereign AI strategy, IntraGPT is among the first practical demonstrations of secure, in-house AI deployment in policing. The bureau is also using similar AI-driven tools for cyber patrolling, tracing illegal content and risk-based case prioritisation while safeguarding privacy and public trust.
