HYDERABAD: An AI-powered voice assistant deployed at the 1930 cybercrime helpline has enabled the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) to handle more calls while reducing caller waiting time to zero. Earlier, an average of 27 calls remained on hold, delaying fraud reporting and efforts to freeze stolen funds. The assistant gathers key details from callers, including their name, date of birth, amount lost, mode of fraud and time of occurrence, significantly reducing complaint registration time. Callers can interact in English, Telugu or Hindi. The system instantly transcribes conversations into English and generates a structured complaint report, said call centre in-charge SP G Biksham Reddy. The technology is designed to accelerate reporting at a critical stage when swift action can help trace transactions and prevent further movement of stolen money.Telangana recorded 1,23,382 cybercrime complaints in 2025, including 91,369 financial and 32,013 non-financial cases. In the first five months of 2026 alone, the bureau received 53,798 complaints, of which 37,392 were financial and 16,406 non-financial.Despite rising cybercrime nationally, Telangana reported a 3% decline in complaints in 2025, while the rest of India witnessed a 24% increase.Prompt reporting through the helpline and other channels helped authorities place nearly Rs 280 crore on hold in 2025, with Rs 183 crore refunded to 29,273 victims.Since the system was introduced, Rs 399.6 crore has been returned to over 53,434 victims, while another Rs 154.4 crore was saved or frozen up to May 2026.The AI assistant forms part of TGCSB’s efforts to counter emerging threats such as voice cloning, deepfakes, automated phishing and cryptocurrency-linked fraud by enabling faster complaint processing and financial intervention.
