Hyderabad: Since the implementation of GST 2.0 last year, Telangana has recorded a 3% increase in commercial tax collections. Data shows that between April 2025 and Jan 2026, total collections reached 64,914 crore, compared to 62,851 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 2,063 crore. Official sources attribute this rise to steady growth of state’s economy.According to data available with TOI, commercial tax revenue in Jan 2026 stood at 6,903 crore, up from 6,673 crore in Jan 2025, reflecting a 3% growth and an increase of 230 crore. Meanwhile, GST collections for Jan this year amounted to 4,050 crore, compared to 3,907 crore a year earlier, registering a 4% growth and an uptick of 143 crore.VAT (petrol) collections dipped marginally to 1,444 crore from 1,453 crore, marking a 1% decline of 9 crore. In contrast, VAT (liquor) collections rose sharply to 1,341 crore from 1,236 crore, recording an impressive 8% growth and an increase of 105 crore. Profession tax, however, declined to 67 crore from 77 crore, representing a 13% drop and a decrease of 10 crore. For the cumulative period from April 2025 to Jan 2026, GST collections totalled 36,217 crore, compared to 35,418 crore during the corresponding period last year, indicating a 2% growth and an increase of 799 crore. VAT (petrol) collections during this period stood at 13,737 crore, up from 13,209 crore, reflecting a 4% growth and an increase of 528 crore.VAT (liquor) collections reached 14,163 crore, compared to 13,505 crore previously, marking a 5% growth, amounting to 658 crore. Profession tax collections increased, rising to 797 crore from 719 crore, registering an 11% growth and adding 78 crore to the total.
