In the backdrop of opposition to the development planned at the Mahalaxmi race course, BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani made a presentation on the Coastal Road garden and also on the development of the Central Park, as part of the dialogue with the South Mumbai Residents Association. Gagrani reiterated that no commercial exploitation would be carried out of the coastal road space. Referring to the development planned for the race course, Gagrani said whatever will happen will happen at the basement and considering the limitation of viewing during racing, Gagrani said trees on the race cannot be more than 4 feet high, while one portion will be dedicated to events. Gagrani also said that Mahalaxmi race course was accessible to the public before and will continue to be accessible to all in future too. The Commissioner also pointed out that the plan for Mahalakshmi racecourse is still at the conceptual level and the feasibility has to be studied including that of the drainage system.

It will also have a Ferris wheel at the Worli end of the Coastal Road. Plant palettes primarily composes of species belonging to the Coastal Moist Forest eco-region, mixed with species that can thrive and survive in urban conditions.
