Patna: Unidentified youths hurled a crude bomb onto the geography department campus of Patna University on Saturday, triggering panic among students. Those present near the spot narrowly escaped injury. The incident took place on Ashok Rajpath under Pirbahore police station area.An FIR has been registered against unidentified people in this regard.According to university officials, the miscreants threw the explosive onto the campus from the Double Decker Bridge, causing a loud explosion. Students who heard the blast alerted police, following which a team reached the spot and began an investigation.Chief proctor Uday Shankar said the explosive was thrown onto the campus from the bridge. He warned that the university would cancel the enrolment of any student found to be involved in the case. Town DSP Rajesh Ranjan said an explosion was reported on the geography department campus around 12.15pm on Saturday. No injuries had been reported so far, he said. “Police teams examined the site and began scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to identify the person responsible for throwing the explosive. It appears that the accused hurled the bomb from the double-decker flyover,” the DSP told TOI.He said police suspected that a dispute between two factions could be behind the incident, though the motive had not yet been established.Police are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the perpetrators and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials are also reviewing security arrangements on the university campus as part of the probe.
