Hyderabad: Congress senior leader and ex-MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy, popularly known as Jagga Reddy, was acquitted by the MP/MLAs court in Nampally on Thursday in a human trafficking case registered in 2018.On Sept 10, 2018, Market police arrested Jagga Reddy for allegedly obtaining Indian passports and USA visas for three people by submitting fabricated documents in the name of his wife and two children. “The accused used names of his wife, two children but affixed photos of others on the applications, to obtain passports and visas in 2004. The documents were used for trafficking the three persons, including two women and a man, to New York for 15 lakh,” a Hyderabad police statement issued on Sept 10, 2018 alleged.A case was booked against Jagga Reddy, his friend, J Kusum Kumar, visa agent, Madhu, and others under relevant sections of IPC, Passport Act and Immigration Act. After the investigation, police filed a chargesheet only against Jagga Reddy and Kusum Kumar in March 2025. After the trial, the special sessions court for the trial of MPs and MLAs in Nampally acquitted Jagga Reddy and Kusum Kumar. “Prosecution was not able to show any evidence to support the charges against my clients. There was no evidence to show that the former MLA travelled to USA and obtained passports and visas for others in the name of his family members. Court found my clients not guilty and acquitted them,” defence counsel G Santosh Reddy said.
