Bhubaneswar: A 13-year-old boy, who had earlier turned the dangerous act of lying between railway tracks with a train passing overhead into social media content, died after being apparently dragged under a moving train in Boudh district, months after being warned by police against repeating the stunt.Investigators suspect that some part of the Balangir-Purunakatak passenger train stuck to his body as it passed over him while he was attempting to shoot another reel around 8.05 pm on Friday near Talupalli village under Baunsuni police station limits. The train was moving towards Boudh station. The boy was wearing grey pants and a blue T-shirt. Locals said after returning home from a tuition class on Friday, he took money from his father and went to a shop. Later, his parents could not find him. “We are yet to ascertain how he ended up on the railway track,” said IIC, Baunsuni police station, Mahendra Behera. “It is unfortunate that a school-going child dies on the railway track. He was the same kid who lay between the tracks last year. We handed over the boy’s body to his parents on Saturday after postmortem,” said Behera.Police said the boy figured in a viral video that showed him lying between railway tracks as a train crossed overhead while another minor filmed the stunt. Behera said the teenager had been counselled by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and local police after the video surfaced in June last year. His parents were also warned about the potentially fatal consequences of such acts. The RPF registered a case against the two minors on July 6 last year. Railway authorities also carried out an awareness campaign in the area last year, cautioning youngsters against risking their lives for online popularity.
