Varanasi: Ballia police arrested a man accused of brutally killing a teen boy of Babuapur Kathahi village following an encounter on Wednesday. The accused, Manoj Yadav (32), and the deceased, Raunak Yadav alias Naki (15), were involved in a case of attempted murder and theft. Manoj killed the teen boy over to a monetary dispute between them.Ballia ASP (southern) Kripa Shankar said that the Haldi police were busy patrolling, when informers alerted them about Manoj’s movement on Mudadih-Sonwani road. The police team raided the area and succeeded in locating him near a temple. Upon seeing himself surrounded by police, Manoj opened fire at the cops and tried to escape. In retaliatory action by police, Manoj suffered a bullet injury in his leg and was caught. After recovering a firearm and cartridges from him, police rushed him to hospital, where he confessed to murdering Raunak on March 9. On Monday evening, Raunak had left home to attend a wedding ceremony, but his body was later found in an orchard in Haldi police station area the next day. After recovery of the body, Raunak’s father Nandji Yadav lodged an FIR against Manoj at Haldi police station.During investigation, it came to light that Manoj used to motivate teenage boys in his area into various criminal activities, including theft. Raunak was also misled by him and both of them were accused in a case of attempted murder and theft. Nandji informed police that Manoj also used to threaten to kill Raunak for many days.
