Mangaluru: As the II PUC examinations continue across Karnataka, a technical glitch in the Student Achievement Tracking System (SATS) has disrupted the processing of I PU results, leaving several pre-university colleges unable to complete the uploading of marks smoothly.The problem emerged when principals began entering I PU marks into the SATS portal. While the passing criteria for I and II PU had traditionally been identical, the rules for II PU were recently revised. Under the updated norms, students are required to score a minimum of 30 marks in each subject and secure an overall aggregate of 33% to be declared pass.
However, college administrators reported that the SATS software is still operating on older parameters for pass classification. According to principals, the portal currently flags students as ‘fail’ unless they meet the per-subject minimum of 30 marks and an overall aggregate of 35%. This discrepancy has created confusion during the mark-entry process, particularly for students who qualify under the revised aggregate threshold but are being shown as failing in the system.Jayanand Suvarna, principal, Govt PU College, Shakti Nagar, and president of the Dakshina Kannada Pre-University Colleges Principals’ Association, said the issue affected some institutions during uploads. He said students who should be marked as pass under the new rule were displayed as fail, prompting principals to escalate the matter to higher authorities.The I PU final examinations were held between Feb 15 and 25. The department of pre-university education has set strict deadlines—principals must upload marks and obtain approval from the deputy director of pre-university education (DDPU) by March 13, and I PU results must be declared by March 31.Rajeshwari HH, deputy director of the pre-university education department, Dakshina Kannada, confirmed that the issue was reported by principals last week and taken up with senior officials in Bengaluru. She said officials have assured that the software glitch will be resolved within a couple of days.
