Mangaluru: A second division assistant (SDA) attached to the assistant executive engineer’s office, electrical subdivision, public works department (PWD), Mangaluru, was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta police while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 22,600 from a govt-licensed Class-I electrical contractor.According to Lokayukta police, the complainant is a govt-licensed Class-I electrical contractor and undertook govt works related to streetlight extension in gram panchayat areas of Udupi district last year.
In connection with clearing the bill for the said work, SDA Sampath of the assistant executive engineer’s office, electrical sub-division, public works department, Mangaluru, allegedly demanded a bribe of 4% of the bill amount, totalling Rs 22,600.In this regard, a case was registered at the Mangaluru Lokayukta police station against Sampath, SDA, assistant executive engineer’s office, electrical subdivision, public works department, Mangaluru.Sampath was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta police, while allegedly accepting the bribe amount of Rs 22,000 from the complainant. He was taken into custody, and further investigation is in progress.The operation was conducted under the guidance of Lokayukta SP BP Dinesh Kumar and team, including DSPs Suresh Kumar P, Gana P Kumar and inspectors Bharathi G and Chandrashekar KN, along with staff members.
