Vadodara: A teacher at a govt primary school in Mahisagar district was suspended on Sunday after allegedly assaulting a Class V student. An inquiry has also been ordered against the teacher, identified as Riyaz Dawal, who has been teaching at the school for several years.The incident took place at the school in Lunawada town on Saturday. After school hours, the student told his parents that the teacher had hit him with a drilling machine. A photograph showing injury marks on the child also went viral on social media.However, when education department officials met the student at his residence on Sunday, he gave a different account, saying that the teacher had punched him on the back. According to officials, the child and his parents later stated that the injuries were caused by the finger rings worn by the teacher.“We formed a committee to investigate the matter and met the child on Sunday at his residence. The boy and his parents said that the teacher had hit him on his back and that the injury was caused by the rings worn by the teacher. However, we are still investigating the matter in detail,” said Puja Jha, district education officer, Mahisagar.“The teacher has been suspended as hitting a child is against the rules,” Jha added.The teacher was reportedly upset with the student for being mischievous in the classroom.
