Rajkot: In dry Gujarat, a primary school teacher at Khapat Primary School in Una taluka of Gir Somnath district has been accused of sending a Class VII student to fetch liquor during school hours.The matter came to light after the student was found carrying a liquor bottle on campus, triggering both a police complaint and a departmental inquiry.The principal noticed the student returning from outside while classes were in progress and on inquiring found the liquor bottle in the student’s possession.Taluka primary education officer (TPEO) Haresh Vadher said he informed police after receiving a complaint from the principal. The accused teacher, Hareshgiri Gauswami, teaches Gujarati.“We received a complaint from the school principal. Based on that, I submitted a report to the district education officer and filed an application with police. A departmental inquiry is underway,” Vadher told TOI.The student allegedly told the principal that Gauswami had told him to fetch the bottle. The principal then submitted a written complaint and seized the liquor bottle.Officials said the student further alleged that he had been told to fetch liquor earlier as well.Vadher said Gauswami had previously faced disciplinary action after he was found drunk during school hours. As punishment, an annual increment had been withheld.
