Buxar: Police on Friday arrested a teacher accused of being one of the main suspects in the alleged sexual abuse of a minor student at a middle school in Dumraon block, while efforts were intensified to trace another accused.Dumraon SDPO Sameer Kumar Singh said the accused, Arvind Kumar, was arrested from Brahmpur on Friday. Police are conducting raids to arrest another teacher, Virendra Prasad, named in the case, while a third teacher has been detained for questioning.The case came to light after allegations emerged that a minor student was sexually abused and a video of the alleged incident was recorded. On Thursday, police registered an FIR against three teachers, including the headmaster, under the Pocso Act on the written complaint of the victim’s mother. The headmaster was charged with trying to shield the two accused teachers.Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident and probing the purported video. Police are also looking into whether it was circulated or used to threaten the victim or others, and whether anyone else was involved in recording, handling or circulating it.“Only one video has so far been identified as being of a girl who had passed out of the school, and the FIR was registered on the basis of the written complaint submitted by her mother,” Singh said. “Police have received two more videos and are verifying whether the girls shown in them are students of the school and whether they are minors or adults,” he added.Earlier on Thursday, a three-member team comprising DSP-rank officers visited the local police station on the direction of DG (weaker section) K S Anupam and recorded the statements of the girl and her mother.“The investigation is at an active stage,” an official said, adding further details would emerge after questioning the accused and examining the evidence.The arrests have also prompted departmental action against school staff. Two teachers were suspended earlier, while the Buxar education department suspended the headmaster following his arrest and withdrew his recommendation for a state-level award.
