Vigilance arrests executive engineer

Patna: Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Thursday arrested Dwijendra Kumar Mishra, executive engineer with Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BSEIDCL), Purnia, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.04 lakh from a contractor in Patna. He was caught red-handed near the Golf Club gate on Bailey Road during a trap laid by vigilance officials.Following the arrest, vigilance teams searched Mishra’s residence at Lakhan Enclave under Rupaspur police station area and recovered Rs 8.36 lakh in cash apart from the bribe amount. Officials also found documents related to a flat in Rupaspur, investment papers worth around Rs 1 crore, documents linked to two bank lockers, and gold and silver jewellery, whose value is being assessed.Vigilance DG Jitendra Singh Gangwar said the action followed a complaint by Ram Sagar Sharma of Kankarbagh, who alleged that Mishra had demanded Rs 3 lakh as a 2% commission after release of Rs 1.54 crore for construction work carried out in government schools in Katihar district under BSEIDCL.According to vigilance officials, verification of the complaint found Mishra allegedly demanding Rs 1.04 lakh as bribe. A case was registered on Sept 2 and a trap team led by vigilance DSP Vikash Kumar Srivastava arrested him while allegedly accepting the money.Gangwar said Mishra had retired as executive engineer from the water resources department in 2021 and had been working with BSEIDCL, Purnia, through an outsourcing agency since 2023. Further investigation is underway. “The accused will be produced before the special vigilance court in Patna after interrogation,” he added.
