Jamshedpur: Tata Steel will upgrade civic amenities in the Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) command area soon by repairing damaged infrastructure and undertaking beautification works, officials said.The decision in this regard was taken during a meeting on Monday evening between MMC mayor Sudha Gupta and Tata Steel MD T V Narendran, who was accompanied by VP (corporate services) D B Sundara Ramam.According to the agreement, the steel major will repair the dilapidated old bridge over the Subarnarekha river.While cars, bikes, heavy commercial vehicles and buses ply on the JP Setu daily, the adjacent old bridge remains the preferred route for pedestrians, bicycles, hand-pulled rickshaws and bikes. Fixing the old bridge will resolve long-standing issues for commuters, said officials. Furthermore, the damaged road from the MGM Hospital roundabout to Gokulnagar, along with streets in low-lying colonies in Dimna, will also be beautified. New drains will be constructed on both sides of the Mango-Dimna road to curb waterlogging. Clogged drains in Dimna area — a perennial problem — will also be cleared and restored. The company will regulate the cleaning schedule of the Mango-Dimna road. This apart, high-definition CCTV cameras will be installed along key roads and at all strategic intersections within the corporation limits.“A modern vendor zone will be built at Dimna Chowk to systematically accommodate street vendors,” said an official.“Modern amenities, including open air gyms, will be added to Prithvi Park and Nature Park. Additionally, a brand-new park will be developed on the vacant ground near MGMMCH,” read a statement from the mayor’s office.The company plans to integrate the local female workforce with entrepreneurial schemes run by the Tata Steel Foundation (TSF). “These combined efforts aim to make Mango a safer, and more liveable place equipped with modern public amenities,” said the mayor. Former health minister Banna Gupta, who is the husband of Sudha, was also present at the meeting.
