Tata Chemicals and the Kenyan government have agreed to establish a high-level technical committee to undertake a detailed review of matters raised against Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited (TCML), the company’s Kenyan subsidiary, in a move aimed at facilitating a comprehensive and timely resolution of the issue.

The decision follows a meeting between Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, and TCML executives on September 8, 2026. Tata Chemicals said the engagement was “fruitful” and focused on the matters raised by the ministry.

Under the agreed framework, the committee will be led by the Principal Secretary for Mining on behalf of the Kenyan ministry and the Chief Executive Officer of TCML on behalf of the company.

The committee will undertake a detailed technical review of all matters, following which it will prepare and submit a report to the office of the Cabinet Secretary for consideration and further direction, Tata Chemicals said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.

The company said the process is also intended to establish a sustainable framework promoting promotes responsible mining, value addition, community development and mutually beneficial partnerships.
