Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) on Thursday sealed a tannery in Dahi industrial area of Unnao district on charges of discharging contaminated water and spreading foul odour.The board also disconnected power supply in the area to prevent clandestine operations and sealed machines and generators. The tannery operated at UPSIIDC 15 Leather Complex in Dahi Chowki Side 2. It was alleged that the operators did not comply with pollution control regulations and discharged water containing harmful chemicals, besides spreading foul odour.Taking cognizance of the matter, district magistrate Gaurang Rathi ordered an investigation into the allegations. After the probe confirmed violations of the pollution norms, the DM issued closure orders.A team led by board regional officer Shashi Bindkar sealed the tannery while another team from the electricity department disconnected power supply.
