Vadodara: A tanker going from Rajasthan to Dahej near Bharuch caught fire on National Highway 48 near the city in the early hours on Saturday. The fire was was doused in about four hours.According to the fire brigade, the fire occurred around 2.45am on Friday near the Jambuva bridge. A tanker carrying 23 tonnes of a certain chemical caught fire due to a snag in its wheel. The fire first spread to the tyre and then the entire vehicle.Fire tenders used foam to control the flames and started cooling the tanker to ensure it did not explode in case the cargo was flammable. It took four hours to bring the blaze under control.Fire officials also called the police, who diverted traffic away from the site. A senior fire official said the contents of the tanker were not known at the time of the incident and district administration officials were looking into the details.
