CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu registration department has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to conduct a probe into the alleged irregularities surrounding the registration of a high-value land parcel belonging to the Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Mutt in Palani.The committee has been tasked with examining the allegations in detail and establishing the facts behind the controversial registration. It comprises the additional inspector general of registration, the assistant inspector general of registration and the district registrar.As part of the inquiry, the panel will question the sub-registrar who was on duty on the day the document was registered, the sub-registrar who was on leave that day, the assistant concerned and the district registrar, among other officials connected to the transaction.The committee will also scrutinise CCTV footage recorded at the sub-registrar’s office on the day the registration took place to verify the sequence of events and identify any procedural lapses or irregularities.The inquiry comes amid heightened scrutiny over the registration of the parcel of land measuring 1.4 acre and worth around Rs 100 crore. Madras high court on Wednesday declared the registration property null and void. Tamil Nadu DGP Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal transferred the case to the CB-CID, and a team has begun investigation. District registrar Sasikala and sub-registrar Justin Manikandan have been suspended in connection with the issue.
