Tamil actor booked in Hyd cheating case over ₹1.8cr unpaid equipment rental dues

Hyderabad: Tamil actor Jamshad C, alias Arya, and a few others were booked by the Jubilee Hills police for alleged breach of trust, following a complaint from a firm accusing them of defaulting on agreed payments for film production equipment. The company alleged that of the ₹2.12 crore bill, over ₹1.8 crore remains unpaid after the shoot.The Jubilee Hills police said they received a complaint from Taher Cine Tekniq, a company that supplies equipment for film production. Representatives of the firm alleged that they had provided equipment for the production of the multilingual feature film ‘Ananthan Kaadu’, starring Arya.According to the complaint, representatives of a production house, along with the actor himself, had approached Taher Cine Tekniq seeking the supply of filmmaking equipment on rent. “As per the complaint, the actor himself gave a personal guarantee that the production house would pay the full rental amount without any default,” the police stated in the FIR.Based on these assurances, the complainant transported the production equipment from Hyderabad to Kerala at its own cost. The filmmakers were allegedly required to pay ₹2.12 crore as rental charges.“Mini Studio issued a written confirmation acknowledging outstanding dues of ₹1.80 crore and further undertook in writing that all outstanding dues would be cleared before the release of the film and that a no dues/clearance certificate would be obtained from M/s Taher Cine Tekniq prior to the release of the film,” the complainant stated.The accused allegedly not only defaulted on the payment but also intimidated representatives of the complainant firm when they demanded clearance of the outstanding dues.The three accused — Arya, producer Vinod, and the actor’s personal assistant Kishore — were booked under Sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(2) (cheating) of the BNS.
