A destructive knock from captain Luvnith Sisodia (87, 45b, 9×4, 4×6) carried Shivamogga Yodhas past Bengaluru Blasters by four wickets in the final of the DACSS Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Sunday.
Opener Sisodia was the cornerstone of Yodhas’ chase of 186.
Early strikes
The southpaw carried Yodhas hopes after fellow opener Tushar Singh (nought) and Aadarsh Prajwal (eight) were taken out by speedster Samit Dravid early.
Sisodia rebuilt in the company of M.G. Naveen (24, 26b, 1×4, 1×6), adding 68 runs for the third wicket.
The chase received a boost when K.V. Aneesh arrived at the crease. The required rate dipped to below 10 when Aneesh launched off-spinner Rohan Naveen for two big sixes in the 15th over.
Samit was brought on to bowl from the Rahul Dravid end, and the 20-year-old responded by dismissing Sisodia. The skipper’s departure did not stop the Yodhas charge, as Aneesh (38, 19b, 4×6) and Harshil Dharmani (17, 10b, 2×6) ensured the win.
After electing to bat, Blasters reached a competitive total, thanks to a late flourish from Faizan Khan (29, 8b, 2×4, 3×6) and Rohan Naveen (25 n.o., 8b, 4×6).
Faizan carted pacer Dhanush Gowda for two fours and a six in the 19th over, before Naveen dispatched Abhilash Shetty for four sixes in the last over. The pyrotechnics allowed Blasters to add 90 runs off the last six overs, but it was not enough to halt Yodhas.
The scores: Bengaluru Blasters 185/8 in 20 overs lost to Shivamogga Yodhas 186/6 in 19.4 overs (Luvnith Sisodia 87, Samit Dravid 4/36).
