Hyderabad: With demands from MLAs and MLCs for funds, Telangana govt has allocated 3,300 crore, 10 crore to each legislator under the constituency development plan (CDP) and under the special development fund (SDF), in the budget for the 2026-27 fiscal.SDF with CMCDP is given to the elected MLAs and MLCs, while SDF is with the chief minister, and he allocates it to the villages or any other purpose whenever he visits districts or villages. Officials said govt had earlier released about 1,100 crore under CDP for pending works in 2024 and stopped releasing funds to the MLAs due to paucity of funds and the financial position of the state. The MLAs have been asking the govt to release the constituency development funds as they have promised works to the electorate.CDP funds would be sanctioned by the respective district in charge ministers. Of the 10 crore fund, 2 crore would have to be towards education infrastructure, 1 crore for drinking water, and 50 lakh towards maintenance of collectorates and govt offices. Of the rest, MLAs and MLCs could recommend works such as construction of community buildings, school buildings, toilets, educational institutions, providing CCTV cameras, etc. When BRS was in power, the highest allocations were made in 2023-24 in view of the 2023 assembly elections. The state govt had earmarked 10,348 crore for SDF and another 800 crore under CDP for the elected MLAs and MLCs. It was just 2,000 crore in the preceding year, 2022-23.1,000cr in 2025-26Official sources said since 2014, after BRS came to power, 8,470 crore has been sanctioned by CM for about 53,000 developmental works in various districts. In 2022-23 financial year, about 930 crore was sanctioned to take up 930 works, which is 400 crore more than the previous years, while it was 1,190 in 2023-24 and 1,000 crore in 2025-26. Interestingly, the funds allocation under SDF since 2014 has been three times more than the allocation of funds under CDP, i.e., 2,560 crore to MLAs and MLCs.
