Nagpur: With the third BRICS transport ministers meeting to be held at Nagpur from July 11 to 12, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), one of the pet topics of Union minister Nitin Gadkari, will be at centre stage among other topics of discussion.Gadkari, who will be chairing the meeting, has been a strong advocate of SAF. “I would like to see planes running on the alternative fuel take off from Nagpur airport one day,” Gadkari said in the past. The minister has been pushing for using SAF in flights and has raised the issue at every forum. He has been pushing for the use of biomass-based ATF.Along with SAF, the meeting will also dwell on urban mobility, multimodal transport, resilient logistics supply chains, decarbonisation and adoption of expanding AI-based technologies, said a press release.The meeting at Nagpur will be attended by transport ministers and senior officials from the BRICS member countries. Gadkari will be chairing the meeting on July 11, during which ministers from member countries are expected to take part. It is being convened under India’s BRICS chairship theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS),’ said a press release.Established as the principal platform for policy dialogue and cooperation in the transport sector, the BRICS transport group has emerged as a key mechanism for advancing resilient and efficient transport systems. Themeeting aims to deepen international cooperation in transport sector.The meeting’s theme aligns with India’s outlook for integrating electricity mobility and circular economy solutions and its plans to lower logistics costs while establishing a multimodal network that speeds up green mobility.
