Nagpur: Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said a comprehensive development blueprint for Deekshabhoomi would soon be prepared through a consensus-driven approach involving public representatives and social stakeholders.Speaking at a review meeting held at the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) office, he said the proposed plan would take into account Nagpur’s rapid urban expansion.“Considering Nagpur’s growing national and international profile, there is a need to create infrastructure and facilities that reflect the importance of this historic site,” Bawankule said.The revenue minister said the govt was conscious of preserving the ideological and spiritual essence associated with Deekshabhoomi while planning future development. “Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s vision and emotional connection with Deekshabhoomi should be reflected meaningfully across the premises. Lakhs of followers visit the site and draw inspiration from his message,” he said.Referring to Dr Ambedkar’s call to “Educate, Organise and Agitate,” Bawankule said efforts were being made to ensure that the social and philosophical message associated with the movement reached future generations in a stronger and more structured manner.The Kamptee MLA also stressed that the principles of Panchsheel and Buddhist Dhamma should be reflected more prominently in the overall character and planning of the Deekshabhoomi precinct.The minister said the redevelopment and expansion plan would be taken forward in consultation with elected representatives, scholars, social thinkers and stakeholders associated with the Ambedkarite movement. “A special meeting will soon be convened to discuss the project in detail and finalise the broader framework,” he said.The meeting also reviewed development proposals related to the Shri Mahalakshmi Jagdamba Sansthan pilgrimage site at Koradi and other infrastructure projects in Nagpur.Among those present were NIT chairman Sanjay Meena, general manager Sachin Dhole and senior officials.
