Congress’ Supriya Shrinate during a press conference on Tuesday

Nagpur: Escalating the attack on BJP and its ideological fountainhead RSS, from the Sangh home turf of Nagpur, Congress national spokesperson Supriya Shrinate on Tuesday called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence on the donation theft at Ayodhya’s Ram temple, order a CBI probe into the case under the supervision of a sitting Supreme Court judge, and make the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report public.Talking to reporters here, Shrinate said, “This is not BJP’s private matter or the temple Trust’s internal affair. It concerns Lord Ram’s temple and the faith of millions of Hindus. The controversy has dented the credibility of the Ram Mandir Trust, which should be dissolved immediately.”Alleging RSS involvement in the matter, she said, “Every institution in the country has been infiltrated by Sangh and wherever they are present, thefts, dacoity and destruction followed. Hence RSS needs to be registered, its funds audited, and people need to know who is running the organisation.”Shrinate said the prime minister associated himself with every major milestone of the Ram Mandir, from bhoomipujan to the consecration ceremony. “Today, when serious financial allegations have surfaced, why is he silent? The country deserves answers,” she said. The Congress spokesperson claimed the temple Trust general secretary Champat Rai and member Anil Mishra have resigned, but they have been given a clean chit. “This reflects the seriousness of the investigation. On what grounds were Rai and Mishra exonerated? Crucially, the role of Krishna Mohan, who has been appointed general secretary, is also questionable,” she said.Calling for an independent investigation into the donation theft, Shrinate said, “This is not just a case of theft, it’s an attack on the faith of Hindus. CBI should investigate the matter under the supervision of a sitting Supreme Court judge.”She further insisted that findings of the SIT should be placed before the public. “This is not somebody’s private property. It concerns the Ram Mandir and the entire country has the right to know what the investigators found,” she said.Shrinate also questioned the functioning of the temple’s security arrangements and demanded answers on how the theft could occur despite deployment of central and state security personnel and private security agencies.Referring to those who had allegedly flagged irregularities, she claimed instead of acting against the accused, govt took action against whistleblowers. She also questioned why recommendations on standard operating procedures for counting donations were ignored.Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe announced the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) would organise a big protest at Poddareshwar Ram Mandir in Nagpur on July 9 against the donation theft at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, demanding accountability and a transparent investigation into the matter.
