Chandigarh: A 33-year-old e-rickshaw driver allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Mauli Jagran, following which police registered a case against his wife and her alleged male friend on charges of abetment to suicide.The deceased, Monu, was a resident of Mauli Complex. The case was registered on the complaint of his younger brother, Kapil.According to the complaint, Monu married Komal around eight years ago in a love-cum-arranged marriage, and the couple has a six-year-old daughter. Kapil alleged that about seven weeks ago, the family came to know about Komal’s alleged relationship with a 20-year-old man, Sunny, who reportedly used to visit her for tuition classes.

He claimed that the family made several attempts to resolve the matter, including meetings between both families, but no settlement could be reached. About a week before the incident, Komal allegedly left the matrimonial home and moved to her parents’ house, after which Monu remained under severe mental stress, the complaint stated.On July 22, Kapil allegedly found Monu hanging from a ceiling fan on the second floor of the house. He was rushed to Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, where doctors declared him dead.After completing legal formalities and post-mortem examination, Mauli Jagran police registered a case against Komal and Sunny under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including abetment to suicide. Investigation is under way.
