Times News NetworkChandigarh: Chandigarh police have arrested a couple for allegedly stealing cash and valuables from a gift shop in Sector 35 in the guise of customers. The accused, Harpreet and his wife Tamanna, residents of Togan village in Mohali, were produced before a local court and remanded in one-day police custody.At around 5:40pm on July 20, Harpreet, Tamanna and their child entered a shop owned by Arun Bhatia in Sector 35A, pretending to browse gift items. While Tamanna engaged employee Devendra Chauhan, Harpreet allegedly moved towards the cash counter.Investigators said Harpreet first tried to open the drawer with a key and screwdriver he was carrying. When he could not, he allegedly used the original key kept near the counter to unlock it.

He then allegedly stole Rs 24,000 cash, a wallet containing an Aadhaar card and documents, along with several gift articles. The couple fled with their child soon after.Sector 36 police registered a case on the complaint of the shop owner. Police are now questioning them to determine whether they were involved in similar thefts in Chandigarh, Mohali or Panchkula.
