Nagpur: Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Monday directed the city police to submit a detailed report on action taken against DJ vehicles that allegedly violate prescribed noise limits during religious processions and public celebrations.A division bench of Justices Urmila Joshi-Phalke and Nivedita Mehta ordered the police to file report by Aug 25. The court was hearing a PIL by Bhupendra Wasnik along with connected suo motu proceedings concerning environmental compliance and noise pollution.Referring to information obtained under Right to Information (RTI) Act, petitioner’s counsel Tushar Mandalekar, submitted that no action had been taken against such DJ vehicles despite repeated violations.The issue also figured during an earlier hearing when court-appointed amicus curiae Abdul Subhan drew bench’s attention to excessive noise caused by DJ vehicles during a recent religious procession. He had also placed video recordings of alleged violations before court.The court also widened the scope of the hearing to include noise pollution generated at construction sites. Advocate Ashutosh Dharmadhikari sought details of the statutory framework governing construction noise, including permissible working hours and applicable regulatory safeguards.Bench directed the state to place before it guidelines and mechanism in place for regulating noise pollution arising from construction activities.
