Ahmedabad: A Class XI student of a school near Paldi was allegedly assaulted by three fellow students near the Sabarmati Riverfront following a dispute involving a female classmate. The incident has prompted the Ahmedabad City district education officer (DEO) to seek a report from the school administration.Ahmedabad City DEO Rohit Chaudhari said the authorities had taken note of the incident and directed Sharda Mandir to submit a report detailing the episode, the action taken by the school and other relevant information.According to a complaint filed by the teenager’s mother with Sabarmati Riverfront (West) police, the dispute began on Sept 8 when her son, a resident of Kochrab, had a verbal altercation with a female classmate. The matter was allegedly brought to the attention of another student, who confronted the boy outside the school gate after classes, abused him and slapped him. The issue was subsequently resolved and an apology was exchanged between the parties.However, the complaint states that later that day the teenager received several messages on Instagram asking him to come to the riverfront. One of the messages allegedly challenged him to bring along his gym-going friends.The following day, the boy went to the riverfront with three friends. Around 8.30pm, one of the accused allegedly called him repeatedly, abused him and asked for his location. After the teenager informed him that they were near the Sports Club on the riverfront, three youths allegedly arrived at the spot.According to the complaint, the youths abused the teenager and his friends before assaulting them. During the altercation, one of the accused allegedly picked up a stone and struck one of the teenager’s friends behind the left ear.The school principal contacted the teenager’s mother and called the students involved. The school allegedly obtained apology letters from the students concerned.
