Ahmedabad: A teacher of a Khokhra school has been fired following allegations that he created fake Instagram accounts and sent inappropriate messages to a female student.The student allegedly received objectionable messages from an Instagram account. She and her friends suspected that someone connected with the school was sending the messages. When she told school management about the messages, suspicions fell on one teacher. When his mobile phone was checked, more than one fake Instagram account was allegedly found.In the ensuing confrontation, the teacher’s phone was reportedly thrown to the ground, and he was slapped. A video of the confrontation was posted online, bringing wider attention to the matter.Subsequently, both sides approached police. The teacher allegedly told police that the messages were intended for his wife and had been inadvertently sent to the student.However, the school management conducted a preliminary inquiry and did not accept the teacher’s explanation. Considering the seriousness of the allegations, the management terminated his employment with immediate effect.The matter has also come under the scrutiny of Ahmedabad City East district education officer Rohit Chaudhari, who issued a notice to the school management, stating that the teacher’s alleged conduct was highly inappropriate.School representatives have been directed to appear before the DEO within a day and submit details of the disciplinary action taken against the teacher.
