Mohali: A 21-year-old student of a Chandigarh-based private college died after he was found lying in a pool of blood in his room at a residential society on Patiala Road on Monday night.The deceased, identified as Vikram Bakshi, was pursuing a BBA course. He was initially taken in critical condition to a private hospital on VIP Road and later referred to PGI, where he died.Vikram’s mother, Suman Bakshi, who works as a domestic help and lived with her son, told police that he returned from the gym around 8 pm on Oct 5 and went straight to his room. Around 10.30 pm, she found him lying on the floor in a pool of blood. She raised an alarm and, with the help of neighbours, took him to hospital.In her statement to police, Suman said she did not suspect anyone and claimed that her son’s injuries were self-inflicted. She also ruled out the involvement of any other person.Investigating officer Labh Singh said a post-mortem examination had been conducted and three stab wounds were detected on the victim’s chest. Police also examined the scene and articles recovered from the room.He said the family did not seek legal proceedings and police had so far found no evidence suggesting foul play. Inquest proceedings were conducted in connection with the death.
