Datke informed the house that the Union ministry of labour and employment had taken a decision in 2025 to set up 10 new medical colleges across the country, including at Nagpur and Pune. However, while proposals from other locations were submitted, the proposal for Nagpur remains to be sent, the Central Nagpur MLA added. He questioned the delay despite the city being represented by senior leaders like Union minister Nitin Gadkari and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.Datke said the proposed college would increase MBBS seats and become the third medical college in Nagpur after the Government Medical College and Indira Gandhi Medical College. The project is expected to benefit workers in growing industrial areas like New Nagpur and Mihan and generate employment. The existing workers’ hospital at Hanuman Nagar currently functions only as an OPD facility.Responding to the queries, Abitkar assured that the proposal would be revised and sent to the Centre soon to expedite the establishment of the medical college.
