Bhubaneswar: Food supplies and consumer welfare minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Tuesday held a meeting with representatives of traders’ associations from across the state to ensure uninterrupted supply and availability of essential commodities in the market.Key issues discussed included measures to control price rise of essential commodities, ensuring adequate availability of food items and curbing hoarding practices. The minister emphasised the need for a robust supply chain to safeguard consumer interests, particularly during periods of market fluctuation.Traders’ representatives assured him of their cooperation in maintaining stable supply and preventing artificial scarcity. The meeting also highlighted the importance of coordination between the govt and business community to protect the interests of both traders and consumers.Among the demands raised by the traders were the establishment of vegetable markets in every district and development of dedicated commercial trading hubs. Patra said the govt would take necessary steps and hold discussions with district collectors to explore the proposals.
