Berhampur: Two minor girls drowned in a village pond at Patanda under Ganjam district’s Digapahandi police station limits on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Pranjali Dora (11), a Class VI student and daughter of Deenabandhu Dora and Manini Dora (12), a student of Class VII and daughter of S.Prakash Dora, police sources said.After returning from school, they went to the village pond for bathing. Others bathing in the pond tried to rescue the duo, but in vain. They informed their family members and nearby fire station at Digapahandi. The fire-fighters from Digapahandi found the girls after searching for about two hours in the pond and rushed them to the nearby community health centre (CHC), Digapahandi, where the doctors declared them dead, said Kishor Kumar Samal, inspector-in charge, Digapahandi police station. He said the bodies have been handed over to the family members after post-mortem at MKCG Medical College here. Tehsildar of Digapahandi Santosh Kumar Sahu said they would recommend to the govt for ex-gratia to their families in drowning death cases after getting the post-mortem report.
