Prayagraj: Junior doctors at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital went on strike on Monday to mark their protest against the alleged detention of a junior doctor by cops in Rampur district.The resident doctors closed OPDs and boycotted work in emergency. President of Resident Doctors Association, Prayagraj, Dr Nipendra, told TOI that, “When resident doctors came to know that a group of policemen allegedly picked up one of their colleaque from his house in Rampur on May 20 without any information or warrant they appealed local administration and police to find out the exact cause. We decided to go on strike as both police and administration failed to reply”.He added said that all resident doctors were assured that there would be fair probe into the incident but instead 20 resident doctors were placed under suspension. The strike by the resident doctors crippled medical services at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital and senior doctors also left the premises. Following the strike, numerous patients who had traveled to SRN hospital from the city and remote areas had no other option but to return home disappointed. Bina, a resident of Chitrakoot, who arrived SRN hospital to seek treatment in orthopedic department, had to return empty handed.
