Jaisalmer: Sriganganagar police Monday claimed a major breakthrough in two international heroin smuggling cases, linking a recent 11 kg seizure to an earlier 12 kg consignment allegedly dropped by drone from Pakistan near the border and transported to Punjab undetected.Superintendent of police Harishankar Yadav said the Feb consignment came to light during interrogation of five smugglers arrested on March 27 while attempting to collect 11 kg of heroin from a field at Chak 2-KND in the Rawla police station area. The consignment was allegedly dropped via drone from across the Pakistan border on March 26.Police also arrested a key accused from Punjab in connection with the earlier case Monday. The accused, Gurvinder Singh alias Tinku (35), a resident of Fazilka district, was held and the motorcycle used to transport the contraband was recovered. He is being questioned about the supply chain.Officials said the probe, led by station house officer Dinesh Saran of Suratgarh City police station, revealed that in Feb, members of the same gang had arranged a 12 kg heroin drop via drone near the Sri Ganganagar border, which was later smuggled into Punjab.Police said Gurvinder Singh was arrested based on technical and human intelligence inputs and booked under several sections of NDPS Act and BNS.According to police, on the night of March 26, Pakistani smugglers dropped 20 packets of heroin, each weighing 500 grams, in a farm near Chak 2-KND. Five smugglers were arrested on the spot when they arrived to collect the consignment.During sustained interrogation, the accused revealed details of the earlier 12 kg consignment, which had been successfully moved to Punjab.Police said further investigation into the cross-border supply chain is underway.
