Jhansi: Minister for tourism and culture and Jhansi in-charge Jaiveer Singh on Friday directed the civic authorities to speed up ongoing works, launch a pothole-free road campaign and promptly address public grievances. He also approved Rs 50 lakh for the upcoming Jhansi Mahotsav.He was reviewing development projects and implementation of government schemes at a district-level meeting with officials and public representatives here on Friday.The minister appreciated initiatives taken by the district administration under district magistrate Gaurang Rathi, particularly the proposal to utilise around Rs 22 crore from District Mineral Foundation Funds for roads, education, healthcare and social welfare projects based on proposals received from the elected representatives.In a civic initiative, an MoU was signed between Simrawari gram panchayat and Jhansi Municipal Corporation in the minister’s presence under which the waste generated in the gram panchayat area will be transported to the Bijuli waste processing centre for disposal. Singh instructed the officials to improve electricity supply in rural areas and ensure faster disposal of complaints raised by public representatives.Reviewing the tourism projects, he told the officials to complete construction works without delay so that the facilities could be made available to the public. Bundelkhand, he said, has considerable potential for eco-tourism and there is a need to tap them for faster execution of projects. He asked the officials to invite elected representatives to foundation-laying and inauguration ceremonies.On housing schemes, the minister asked the officials to identify, verify and sanction houses for eligible families without homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin and Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, including eligible applicants not figuring in the existing lists.
