Srinagar, September 7:Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and MLA Chrar-i-Sharief, Ab Rahim Rather, on Sunday paid glowing tributes to Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 43rd death anniversary, recalling his significant contribution to the political and social history of Jammu and Kashmir.

 Rather described Sheikh Abdullah as one of the most towering and transformative figures in the history of the region, saying his contributions towards people’s empowerment and social transformation had left an enduring legacy.

 The Assembly Speaker highlighted Sheikh Abdullah’s steadfast commitment to secularism and democracy, besides his historic initiatives in the fields of social justice, land reforms, education and women’s empowerment.

 He said the ideals championed by Sher-i-Kashmir continued to remain relevant and could guide Jammu and Kashmir towards peace, harmony, dignity and democratic progress.

 Rather maintained that Sheikh Abdullah’s vision of empowering people and promoting social justice continued to inspire generations and remained an important part of the region’s political and social legacy.
