PUNE: A discarded passport, thousands of phone calls and alleged secret meetings have emerged as key clues in the investigation into the murder of realtor Ketan Agarwal, with police claiming his fiancée Siya Goyal and her alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary conspired to kill him.Police said Goyal had earlier sabotaged a planned pre-wedding trip to Bali on June 6 by allegedly tearing up Agarwal’s passport and throwing it away in a restroom near the Khalapur toll plaza.“She later admitted to the act, saying Chaudhary opposed the trip,” senior police inspector Dinesh Tayade said.“Our probe showed that after stealing the passport from the car at the food mall at Khalapur, Siya Goyal dumped it in the women’s washroom. While we are probing the murder, a team will also be sent to the mall to see if the passport can be retrieved,” Tayde told PTI.Goyal and Agarwal, who got engaged in February, were set to marry by the end of the year.The investigation into Agarwal’s death on June 18 has also revealed what police described as an extensive communication trail between Goyal and Chaudhary.According to Pune Rural Police, the two exchanged 2,004 phone calls and spent around 238 hours talking to each other over six months before Agarwal was allegedly pushed from Lohagad Fort.“The duo (Goyal and Chaudhary) exchanged 2,004 phone calls and spent around 238 hours speaking to each other during the last six months. Some of the calls between them lasted for more than 2 to 3 hours,” Pune (Rural) Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill said.Police said call records and CCTV footage helped them piece together the alleged conspiracy.On the day of the incident, Goyal and Chaudhary allegedly met at a cafe before going to Lohagad Fort, where they allegedly discussed the plan to eliminate Agarwal.“The probe has also revealed that on the day of the incident, Goyal and Chaudhary allegedly met at a cafe before heading to Lohagad Fort and discussed the plan to eliminate Agarwal.“During the meeting, the two allegedly identified a suitable spot on the fort from where Agarwal could be pushed into the valley and worked out the details of the execution of the plan,” said Gill.Police have arrested Goyal and Chaudhary and said both allegedly viewed Agarwal as an obstacle in their relationship.
