Akola: A man raped a six-year-old girl in Akot Fail area of Akola on Monday. The incident triggered widespread protests, with right wing organisations demanding a fast-track trial and stringent punishment for the accused.Police arrested the accused, Sohel Khan Jamir Khan, a resident of the Akot Fail locality on the same day, after registering a case under relevant provisions of BNS, and Pocso Act.As per the complaint by father of the survivor, his three minor daughters live with their mother in Naigaon. The incident came to light on February 16 morning after the child called her family and informed them about the assault. The survivor’s elder sister too levelled serious allegations against the accused.The complaint stated that the accused frequently visited the survivor’s home and allegedly indulged in indecent and abusive behaviour with the minor girls. It was also alleged that he assaulted them when they tried to resist. Police have recorded the survivor’s statement and conducted her medical examination .Speaking to TOI, Akot Fail police station in-charge Rahim Sheikh said, “The accused was produced before the court which remanded him in judicial custody.”Meanwhile, the incident sparked strong reactions from Bajrang Dal and VHP, which condemned the crime and demanded decisive action. Bajrang Dal district president Suraj Bhagewar said incidents of sexual offences against minor girls were increasing and demanded that the case be tried in a fast-track court.
