Nagpur: As many as six shanties, household items and two two-wheelers were damaged in a major fire that broke out at Sangam Chawl near Patwardhan Ground early Monday morning. While no fatalities were reported, three residents sustained minor burn injuries in the incident, officials said.According to fire officials, the control room received a distress call at around 4.43am. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and fire fighters launched an intensive operation to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby shanties in the densely populated area.“The first fire tender reached the spot at around 4.47am. Teams worked continuously to control the blaze and prevent further damage,” a fire official said. As the huts were made largely of wood and grass, the fire spread rapidly and gutted 4 shanties. During the incident, 3 residents Sagar Thakur and Amit Thakur suffered burns on their hands and faces, while Anita Yadav sustained burns on both hands. All 3 were taken to Govt Medical College and Hospital.The firefighting operation continued for nearly 2.5 hours before the blaze was brought completely under control. As per initial reports, household goods, furniture and other belongings inside the huts were reduced to ashes. Preliminary estimates put the total loss at around Rs9.8 lakh. Residents also reported that Rs50,000 cash and gold ornaments valued at nearly Rs2 lakh were lost.Following the fire, Dharampeth zone corporator Pooja Pathak contacted mayor Neeta Thakre and informed her about the incident, requesting compensation for the affected families. Acting on this, the mayor directed the district administration to conduct a survey through the district collector’s office and the tehsildar. Assistant municipal commissioner Rajkumar Meshram of Dharampeth zone also arranged temporary shelter for the affected families on the Yashwant Stadium premises.The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Fire officials suspect that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the blaze, though a detailed inquiry is underway. Residents later began clearing the debris and trying to salvage whatever remained from the charred structures.Fire at tyre co in TirodaA separate fire incident was reported at a tyre warehouse near Tiroda early Monday morning. According to fire dept officials, a call was received at around 5.34am about a blaze at the High Tech Tyre warehouse located near Ring Road in Dighori under Kamptee tehsil.The warehouse operator, Kamal Iyer, alerted the fire control room after noticing thick smoke and flames rising from the premises. Following the alert, firefighting teams were immediately dispatched to the spot.Three fire tenders led by fire officers Shivaji Shirke and Chandrashekhar Randive from Sakkardara, Wathoda and Narendra Nagar fire stations were rushed to the location. Additional firefighting vehicles were also called in from Bidgaon, Bahadura Nagar Panchayat, and Kamptee Municipal Council to assist in the operation.Officials said the blaze broke out in the rear portion of the approximately 8,000sqft warehouse. The area also had temporary accommodation for around 10 employees. Furniture and other materials stored in these rooms were completely destroyed in the fire.Fire dept sources said around 25 new tyres, nearly 70 remoulded tyres and four remoulding machines were gutted in the blaze, along with other equipment and materials stored in the warehouse.Firefighters carried out an intensive operation to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. The cooling operation continued for nearly four hours before the situation was fully brought under control. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
