BENGALURU: Tension prevailed in the Devara Jeevanahalli (DJ Halli) police limits after an official engaged in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise were assaulted while carrying out their duties on Wednesday afternoon. Police have arrested two accused in connection with the attack. The arrested individuals have been identified as Yarab and Dastagir, who have been booked by the DJ Halli Police. According to police, the incident occurred around 1.30 pm when a team of GBA officials had visited the area near Kausar Masjid in Roshan Nagar as part of the ongoing SIR exercise. During the survey, Dastagir allegedly approached the officials and demanded that an SIR form be issued to him. However, the officials refused, stating that he had shifted his residence to Jayanagar and was therefore not eligible to receive the form in that jurisdiction. Enraged by the refusal, Dastagir allegedly picked up an argument with the officials. Police said the situation quickly escalated, with Dastagir and his associate Yarab assaulted an official identified as Pakeerappa, 37, leaving them with bleeding injuries to the face and eyes. Following the attack, the DJ Halli Police registered a case. Both accused, Yarab and Dastagir, were arrested for allegedly attacking the government officials while they were discharging their official duties. Further investigation is underway.
