Shillong: Meghalaya has completed the house-to-house enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), covering all 23,49,645 electors in the state, the office of chief electoral officer BDR Tiwari said on Thursday.“As on July 30, 2026, 100% of Meghalaya’s electorate, numbering 23,49,645 were covered, with all 23,49,645 enumeration forms successfully distributed and digitized, reflecting the unwavering commitment and coordinated efforts of the entire election machinery,” it said in a statement.Of the total electorate, 7,75,337 voters, or 33%, were mapped as “self”, with their electoral records linked to the SIR, 2005 database. Another 11,69,670 electors, accounting for 49.78%, were mapped as “progeny” through records of their parents or grandparents in the database.“A total of 2,24,234 electors (9.54% of the total electorate) could not be linked with the records of the SIR, 2005 and have been categorized under the “No Mapping” category. These cases will undergo detailed verification during the notice phase, including the period for disposal of claims and objections, scheduled from August 5, 2026 to October 3, 2026,” the statement highlighted.“During this period, electors will be provided due opportunity to furnish the necessary information and supporting documents, wherever required, before any decision is taken on their electoral status. As part of the verification exercise, 1,80,404 electors (7.68% of the total electorate) have been identified under the ‘absent’, ‘shifted’, ‘deceased’ and ‘duplicate’ (ASDD) categories,” the statement revealed.The election machinery will now focus on verifying the “No Mapping” and ASDD cases and completing the statutory processes ahead of the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 5, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Y R Mawlong said.The notice phase and the disposal of claims and objections will continue until October 3, according to the official SIR schedule.
