Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh trade and commerce minister Nyato Dukam on Thursday formally inaugurated resumption of operations at the historic Pangsau Pass border haat in Nampong, Changlang district.The market, which officially reopened on July 20 after a six-year hiatus, will operate on the 10th, 20th and 30th of every month.Dukam stressed on the role of trade in driving grassroots development and urged local traders, administrative authorities and civil society organisations to help build a sustainable economic ecosystem, an official release said.Highlighting the historical significance of Pangsau Pass, the minister said a land port was planned at Nampong to strengthen cross-border connectivity and infrastructure.Nampong MLA Laisam Simai, adviser to the trade and commerce minister Dr Mohesh Chai, Trade and Commerce Secretary Bullo Mamu, department director Toko Togur, 21 Assam Rifles Commandant Col Amit Mane and panchayat leaders attended the ceremony.A delegation from Myanmar, comprising the chairman of Pangsau town, officials of the Myanmar Army and police, and representatives of the United Tangshang Committee and the local Bazaar Committee, also attended the event.Before its closure, the border haat served as a trading hub where villagers exchanged agricultural produce, handloom products and essential commodities under barter and regulated trade arrangements. Its revival is expected to support local livelihoods and strengthen cultural ties across the border.
