Officials were told to issue notices and conduct hearings simultaneously

Gurgaon: With the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls entering the crucial stage of notices and hearings, divisional commissioner Ravi Prakash Gupta has directed officials to ensure there is no unnecessary delay in scrutinising claims and objections, verifying documents and deciding cases. At a review meeting, Gupta also asked political parties to assist booth level officers (BLOs) through their booth level agents, while deputy commissioner Uttam Singh directed the education department to identify eligible first-time voters and facilitate their registration. For voters who have received notices under the SIR exercise, the administration has stressed that the process of giving them an opportunity to present their case, verifying supporting documents and deciding claims must move without unnecessary delay.Officials were told to issue notices and conduct hearings simultaneously, follow the prescribed procedure and timelines and verify documents against available records before disposing of each case.Gupta asked political parties to assist BLOs through their BLA-1 and BLA-2 during the notice and verification process. He said active participation by political parties would make the revision exercise more effective and transparent. The objective, Gupta said, was to ensure that no ineligible person remained on the electoral rolls while no eligible citizen was excluded. Officials were directed to examine every claim and objection impartially and strictly according to rules and available documents. The administration is also focusing on adding young voters to the electoral rolls during the revision exercise.Singh directed the education department to coordinate with all educational institutions in the district and identify students who had attained or would attain the age of 18 years as on July 1.Such eligible students are to be assisted in filling Form 6 for fresh voter registration. The move is aimed at ensuring that first-time voters are not left out of the electoral rolls and that young people are made aware of the registration process. The meeting also reviewed constituency-wise progress, pending cases, the status of notices and preparations for hearings.Officials were told to work in coordination and complete the exercise in accordance with Election Commission guidelines in a fair, transparent and time-bound manner.Election registration officers and SDMs of Badshahpur, Pataudi, Gurgaon and Sohna, along with the election tehsildar, other officials and representatives of political parties, attended the meeting.
