Silchar: Assam govt has declared Oct 3 a public holiday in the Silchar Municipal Corporation area for the civic body election.According to a govt notification, all state govt offices and educational institutions within the corporation limits will remain closed on Oct 3.Financial institutions in the area will also remain closed under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the notification read.Polling for the first election to the 42-member municipal corporation will be held from 7.30 am to 4 pm. Votes will be counted on Oct 6, while Oct 5 has been reserved for repolling, if required.A total of 2,70,772 electors are eligible to vote at 316 polling stations across 42 wards.
