Akal Takht jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj

Amritsar: The officiating jathedar of the Akal Takht, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, on Monday condemned the ragging incident involving a Sikh student at a boarding school in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district.In a release, the jathedar called it highly unfortunate that fellow students subjected a Sikh child to such an act. He added that the school administration was fully responsible for preventing such incidents. No child should ever be subjected to such behaviour.Giani Gargaj said he spoke to the victim Sikh student and his family, conveyed his message to remain in chardi kala (high spirits) and assured them of support.He said a video of the incident had surfaced on social media. Respecting the family’s wishes, the jathedar asked all media organisations and web channels not to publish or circulate the video on their platforms or disclose the child’s identity.The jathedar said that following a complaint by the victim’s family members, the Himachal Pradesh Police registered a case under stringent provisions against those accused of ragging and initiated action. However, he said the school administration and principal had not acted responsibly in the incident.
