Shimla: Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Monday that the state govt was considering granting a non-practising allowance (NPA) to medical officers (specialists) to strengthen healthcare services in the state.Chairing a health department meeting, Sukhu said govt was committed to providing world-class treatment and was filling vacant posts across health institutions.He also announced that Rs 800 crore would be spent on strengthening cancer care institutions due to rising cancer cases. An expert committee will be constituted to prepare a roadmap for upgrading cancer treatment facilities. The govt also plans to procure high-end machines and equipment comparable to those at AIIMS Delhi, said the CM.Sukhu said exposure visits to leading healthcare institutions abroad were being planned for medical students and faculty to promote the adoption of advanced practices. Govt also intends to explore new-age healthcare technologies, including gene and molecular therapy, to improve treatment facilities across the state, he added.
