Prayagraj: A 57-year-old sub-inspector posted at Maheshganj police station in Pratapgarh was arrested on charges of seeking bribe to remove the name of a complainant from a case on Wednesday. The errant sub-inspector, Jitendra Singh of Farrukhabad, was also placed under suspension on charges of dereliction of duty. SP (Pratapgarh) Anil Kumar told TOI that an FIR was registered against one Rinku of village Badgava with Maheshganj police station under sections 191(2), 352, 351(3), and 324(2) of BNS, and SI Jitendra Singh was appointed the investigation officer (IO). However, senior cops came to know that the SI sought a bribe from the complainant to remove his name from the case. Senior cops also received a video and audio clip regarding the incident.Following the incident, the SP instructed the DSP (Sadar) to probe the case. In the enquiry report, the SI was found guilty following which he was booked under section 7 of the Corruption Eradication Act.
