Kanpur: A massive fire broke out early Saturday morning in three Metro stores in the Kakadeo area of the City due to a short circuit. The flames spread to the guest house behind the stores, officials said. Two fire engines from Fazalganj Fire Station reached the spot and brought the fire under control in one hour.The fire quickly engulfed the goods stored inside the shops, with tall flames rising amid loud explosions. The flames then spread to the guest house situated behind the stores. Guest house employees attempted to douse the fire but were unsuccessful.Kakadeo resident Mahavir Prasad Pandey owned the guest house. Its manager Nitin Awasthi said there were three shops outside the guest house, which Metro rented about three years ago for storing goods. He said that on Saturday at around 9:30 am, a fire broke out in the shop due to a short circuit and soon turned severe as it caught the stored goods.The incident triggered multiple explosions in the stores, after which the fire engulfed the AC ducts and electrical cables of the guest house. The guest house and Metro workers attempted to extinguish the fire using fire extinguishers, but the flames kept spreading. Fire personnel broke the store shutters using a bulldozer and then brought the fire under control, said Chief fire officer Deepak Sharma
